ABOUT ESTRELLITA C. BELTRAN-ABELARDO
Prof. Abelardo possesses knowledge and wisdom from almost forty (40) years of experience as Trademark Examiner, Hearing Officer (Inter-partes cases), Chief Patent Examiner, Chief Trade and Industry Development Specialist, and, Chief Hearing Officer (inter-partes cases) until she was appointed by the President of the Philippines as the first Director of the Bureau of Legal Affairs of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines in which capacity she decided inter-partes cases as well as cases involving violations of intellectual property rights aside from the administrative supervision of the Bureau.
She has been to foreign countries such as Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, the United States, Sweden, Japan and the Asean region to represent the country in multilateral and bilateral meetings and to participate in advanced trainings on patents, trademark, and copyright particularly on IPR protection and enforcement, border control, best practices in copyright, and training of trainors in intellectual property.
At present, apart from being an IP practitioner, she is also a Professor of Law at Manuel L. Quezon University School of Law since 1991 teaching the Law on Intellectual Property, Insurance Law, and Commercial Law Review. She is invited in various forums to lecture on intellectual property including the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education required by the Supreme Court of all lawyers who wish to remain in good standing.
Prof. Abelardo has been Lecturer/Reviewer on Law on Intellectual Property at Lex Bar Review Center and Emilio Aguinaldo Colleges.
She is the former President and now a member of the Board of Trustees of the Intellectual Property Alumni Association, Inc. (IPAA), Board member of the IP Professors and Researchers Organization (IPPRO) and member of the International Trademarks Association (INTA).
Prof. Abelardo obtained her Bachelor of Science in Commerce at the Far Eastern University, Bachelor of Laws from Manuel L. Quezon University and has earned her masteral units in Masters in Business Administration at the De La Salle University.
